This weekends racing took myself and Peter to Stamullen on the Meath-Dublin border. The Stamullen GP is run over a tough loop which runs through Stamullen village and on around the Snowtown Hill climb which is a tough little climb. The day was dry and bright but a little chilly and with a nice wind blowing. I was away in the A4 race over 2 laps with Peter out in the A3’s over 4 laps.
With no single day races on this weekend it was time to rejoin the A Group for the regular Sunday Spin. With the extra hour of daylight the start time has reverted back to 8:30am. The weather was kind with no rain but still a little chilly and overcast. 17 riders headed out on the days chosen route which would bring us up The Cut and over The Wolftrap. As you can imagine the chosen route was greeted with enthusiasm. 🙂
We rolled out towards Killeigh, turning at Condron’s and onto Clonaslee. The early pace was relaxed with the average speed kept at a nice 28-30km/h. On the road to Clonaslee a sudden surge in pace livened things up and brought about plenty of banter from the rear. Continue reading Weekend Round Up April 9th→
Balbriggan CC were the hosts for the Ben McKeena Memorial Race’s on Sunday. Myself, Peter and Fran represented Tullamore CTC. The weather was dry and fine but with a good northerly breeze blowing. I was heading off with the A4’s, Peter with the A3’s and Fran was out in the Ladies Race.
The race started with a roll out for a mile or two. The roads at the start were narrow with some tight corners and even though we were going slowly some still managed to nearly crash. A ten minute wait ensued until the A3’s were well clear. Eventually we were let off and headed back towards the Ballyboughal with a quick decent. The bunch soon settled into a nice rhythm as I sat close to the rear staying out of trouble. The route headed back towards Balbriggan on the old N1 with a nice stiff headwind not helping progress. The lap line eventually appeared at the top of a nice drag and we set off for our 2nd and final lap. A hairy descent followed on some very narrow roads with a load of gravel and some hairy bumps. A Dublin Wheelers caught some air off of a humpback bridge which looked scary.
