With the weather starting to worsen and the evenings drawing in its time to dust down the trusty Mountain Bike and head out for some off road training in the Slieve Blooms.
The MTB section of TCTC (roadies looking for kicks) starts back this Saturday 6th October. A few of us were up on the trails on Saturday last and conditions are looking good for the winter. It all kicks off at 08:30 am on Saturday morning where we’ll meet up at the forest car park in Clonaslee. For those new to the spins the car park is located just opposite the Tullamore road in Clonaslee Village.
A good level of fitness is required along with a suitable off road equipped MTB or Cyclocross Bike. The quality of equipment has certainly improved among the MTB’ers. A certain website has seen a lot of action in the last year.
The routes contain a nice amount of climbing on decent quality fire roads. There is nothing too technical so people new to MTB’s need not worry. The spins will typically last for 2 to 3 hours so bring some food. The trails can become mucky so be prepared to get wet. We may move the start to Kinnity at some stage during the winter for some different terrain.
The MTB section are also planning an outing to Ballyhoura MTB Trail Centre at some point in the coming weeks. Keep tuned to the website for further information.
Fellow truffle hunters see you on Saturday.
Hopefully we won’t get to close to the deers unlike this poor lad
