MIL League Race 5

A/B Race Report

With the country basking in unusual warm weather a large turnout was assured at last Thursdays MIL League Race in Clara. A large group signed on for the A/B race with most of the numbers in the B and B+ groups. As usual the race distance was 3 laps over the Clara Circuit. Myself, Aidan, Mick and Paul headed off with the B’s and we had a slender 1:30 advantage over the much larger B+ group. Continue reading MIL League Race 5

Sunday Racing Shorts 28/5

Open Racing

With the country basking in glorious sunshine most sane people were heading out for a nice picnic with the family. However for the brave(foolish) racing folk the Barrow Wheelers GP in New Ross was the main port of call this past Sunday. Having never been to New Ross before it was all new terrain for me. Coming towards the town from Mullinavat I was beginning to get slightly worried by the hilly terrain. Having not bothered to study the route for the race I was secretly hoping that we wouldn’t be taking on the climbs I was driving over. Continue reading Sunday Racing Shorts 28/5

Sunday Spin 20/5

Group A

After my rather poor showing in last weeks race I wasn’t hugely exited by the prospect of a long trip to Gorey for

Baa Baa Black Sheep

more torture. So I chickened out and headed out with the Group A lads on Sunday. I cycled in the 6 miles to meet with the group with a slight tailwind helping me into town. The day was promised dry even though it started off on the cool side.

With the Vets on a week off a good group of 11 assembled in the Ball alley. The usually prompt roll out was delayed for Dermot who arrived a little late. The route for the day would see the group head for the open expanse of the Curragh. Continue reading Sunday Spin 20/5

TCTC Club Time Trial R1

TT 16th May

22 members began the 2012 TT season in Kilbeggan with a 5km test. There was some notes absentees including 2011 Overall Winner Gay Davis. The author and other members who are racers failed to show. A hard training session on Tuesday night is my excuse.

Colly Brady was in storming form on the cross bike to take a fine win. When Colly first joined the club his Swiss jersey got him the nickname ‘Cancellara’ and he certainly lived up to expectations. One of our new junior member young John O Donoghue gave a great account of himself. John has also started racing in the MIL League so a bright future beckons.

MIL League Race 4

A/B Race

SSCC hosted Race 4 of the 2012 MIL League last Thursday over the Mount Temple circuit. The field in A/B was

Group B Chasing

definitely the largest of the year so far. The weather gods were kind and the rain stayed away although a nice breeze made things intersting.

With the large crowds the A/B groups were split in 3 with B, B+ and A going off in that order. There were 10 of us in Group B and we had a 1:30 advantage over the much larger B+ group. From TCTC there was myself and Paul in B with Ollie, Damien and Collie (recently upgraded following his 2nd place) in B+. Having only a slender 1:30 advantage the prospects of staying away for 3 laps were slim. Anyhow we set off at a nice pace getting the up and overs going early with everyone contributing. My legs were feeling fairly sluggish for the 1st lap. Not helped by the lack of a warm up due to being slightly late getting over. Continue reading MIL League Race 4
