Pat Colgan Charity Cycle 2015 August 30th 2015

Tullamore Cycling and Touring Club in association with the Irish Kidney Association are delighted to welcome all cyclists to partake in the 2015 edition of the Pat Colgan Charity Cycle. The cycle takes place on August 30th 2015. Sign-On is located at The Harriers Athletic Grounds in Spollenstown and will open at 8:00am. Roll out is from 9:15am for the 125km and 95km. The 75km rolls out at 9:45am.

This year the club have decided to refresh the routes available. On the day there will be 3 main cycles using 3 different and varying routes. There will also be a 12km family cycle on the day.

Entrance Fee Cycling Ireland Members – € 20

4 Peak Pat Colgan Challenge – 125 km

This route will take in all 3 peaks of the Slieve Blooms including The Cut (x2), The Wolftrap and Glendine. This route includes around 1,600 metres of climbing so is not for the faint hearted.

2 Peaks Pat Colgan Challenge – 95 km

This route will climb The Cut and The Wolftrap before returning to Tullamore across some scenic quite roads. This route includes 1,000 metres of climbing.

Base of the Blooms Challenge – 75km

This route skirts around the base of the Slieve Blooms and avoids all the major climbs before returning along the same roads as the 95km cycle. It still contains 400 metres of climbing across some rolling terrain.

The Irish Heart Foundation is calling on cycle enthusiasts to join legend Sean Kelly for his first ever Tour of the Midlands on Sunday 13th October.

*There will be a limited number of on the day entries, at a fee of €50

Route Details

There will be two main routes consisting of 120km and 80 km, with a third 12km route for families.

The Kelly Slieve Bloom 120km:
Start time: 8.15am, Sunday 13th October

This route takes in two climbs in the Slieve Bloom mountains with a fast flat finish from Birr to Tullamore.

Route: Starts Tullamore    (Harriers Sports Arena) -> Mountmellick -> Rosenallis -> Clonaslee ->The Cut Hillclimb (7.2km at 5%) -> The Wolftrap (3km at 9%) -> Kinnity (Food Stop) -> Birr -> Kilcormack -> Blueball -> Finish Tullamore (Harriers Sports Arena).

The Kelly Cut 80km:
Start time: 9am, Sunday 13th October

This route takes in flatter roads around the base of the Slieve Bloom mountains before joining with the 120km route to finish.

Route: Starts Tullamore (Harriers Sports Arena) -> Killeigh -> Clonaslee -> Kinnity (Food Stop) -> Birr -> Kilcormack -> Blueball -> Finish Tullamore (Harriers Sports Arena).

Important note:  Participants for the 120/80km cycles must also register their attendance on the morning of the event. Registration will be open from 7am in the grounds of the Tullamore Harriers Sports arena

The 12km Kelly Family Spin:
Start time: 11am, Sunday 13th October
This route takes place around the areas of Tullamore, Rahan, and Mucklagh.

Route: Starts Tullamore (Harriers Sports Arena) -> Rahan -> Mucklagh -> Finish Tullamore (Harriers Sports Arena).
Please note that registration for the family cycle will take place on the day, €5 per person, or €10 per family (2 adults, 2 children)

Roadside assistance, support vehicles & plenty of refreshment stops will be provided along each route by Buckleys Cycles Tullamore, in association with Tullamore Cycling Club.

Donagh and Eddie’s Bank Holiday Spin

Sportive Report

Thanks to Donagh for sending me through this report.

Myself and the great Eddie made our way to the Seven wonders of Fore Sportive on Bank Holiday Monday . There was a 30km fun cycle and a 70km sportive. With about 30 in the fun cycle and 75 in the sportive , the sportive was let away first and it wasn’t long before we realised the type of terrain that was ahead . I got on the tail of the lead group of about 12 and Eddie tucked in to the second group just behind. After 35km our group was reduced to just 4 when a mixture of punctures, mechanical issues and some taking a break from the demanding climbs stopped for a breather at the water / food station . Pat Colgan Charity Cycle 2012

Tullamore CTC are pleased to announce the Pat Colgan Charity Cycle is back for 2012.

The cycle will take place on Sunday August 26th.

Sign-on is from 8:30am at The Harriers Athletics Ground on the Spollenstown Road in Tullamore.

 

There will be 2 adult cycles with both rolling out at 9:30am.

  • 120km Pat Colgan Slieve Bloom Challenge takes in 2 climbs in the Slieve Blooms with a fast flat finish from Birr to Tullamore.
  • 80km Pat Colgan Tour takes in flatter roads around the base of the Slieve Bloom mountains before joining with the 120km route to finish. Continue reading
